MATCH PREVIEW
Manchester Plan To Put The Boot In

Fri, 25 Feb 2000 14:05 GMT

Wasps v Manchester
Manchester's prolific goal-kicker has been putting inextra practice for the Tetley Bitter Cup quarter-final clash with Wasps.
The 30-year-old is currently the leading kicker in Allied Dunbar Two with a stike rate of 80 per cent, and could take the sting out of the Wasp tail.
Wasps have cut ticket prices and bowed to pressure from Manchester to play the game on Saturday rather than Sunday when Loftus Road normally stages rugby union matches.
Manchester start a quarterfinal for the first time having risen through the ranks of English rugby over the past 10 years. Formerly a senior club, the work of New Zealander Denis Kelly triggered a resurgence helping the team to gain six promotions since 1990.
This season Manchester have achieved a mid-table position in League Two and look upon this tie as a way of marking their progress. “We are out to do our best. If Wasps falter then we have a chance,” Alex Keay, the director of rugby, said.
Wasps, the holders, are considering resting Lawrence Dallaglio, the England forward.
