Hastings Makes A Splash

Former Scotland rugby captain Gavin Hastings was spotted last week at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh splashing about in the pool with Miss Scotland Stephanie Norrie.

Of course, it was all for charity. Along with former Olympic champion Duncan Goodhew the trio were launching this yearís BT Swimathon - Europeís largest swim fund-raiser.

Over 40,000 swimmers are expected to participate and it is hoped they will raise more than £1.5 million for the homeless charity Shelter. The challenge is open to all ages and every penny raised will go directly to charity. The week-long event takes place at more than 500 pools around Britain and begins on March 13.

Hastings isnít the only rugby player doing good deeds. The England Rugby World Cup players will be joining a whole host of celebrities from the worlds of fashion and entertainment in designing their own postcards to help raise cash for women with breast cancer.

Who knows what their artistic talents will conjure up. Lets just hope the postcards are better sellers than last years World Cup tickets for Murrayfield.
